Climate and Development Senior Policy Fellow

 

Salary from £54,356 to £62,939 pa with potential to progress to £69,744 inclusive of London allowance

This is a fixed term appointment for 2 years (to August 2023)

 

The Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment seeks to appoint an experienced senior policy fellow to contribute to a major analysis and engagement programme on international finance and climate action.

 

The post holder will lead key aspects of a joint analysis and engagement programme, hosted by LSE and the Brookings Institution, on international finance and climate action, in consultation with the Programme Director and Supervisor. They will manage a small team of policy fellows and policy analysts focused on different aspects of economic and climate policy, including in relation to China. They will conduct rigorous, research-based, user-focused and policy-oriented analysis, in collaboration with Nicholas Stern and other team members, on aspects of climate policy and economic development. They will also support and assist Nicholas Stern in his high-level role for the COP26 UK Presidency.

 

The appointee will play an active intellectual role in the life of the Institute and contribute to the formulation and delivery of the Institute’s policy analysis strategy, in collaboration with the Policy and Communications Director and the policy analysis team. They will also build and maintain networks, and lead on relevant engagement activities with senior policy experts and policy-makers ensuring outputs have demonstrable impact and inform decision-making.

 

Candidates should have a PhD or equivalent experience in development economics or a related field and extensive experience of working with decision-makers in international financial institutions and multilateral and regional development banks, as well as working with or within government departments at the highest levels in the UK and overseas on issues relating to climate change and economic development. Through engagements with high-level international decision-making networks, candidates will have experience of conducting high-quality and user-oriented analysis on climate change and economic development. They will also have detailed knowledge and understanding of issues relating to economic development and climate change, including the role of multilateral development banks and priorities for the UK Presidency of COP26. Candidates will have experience and knowledge of project management, including the contribution of other project team members, and experience of managing a small group of technical experts.
