Research Officer (Sustainability Economics)

 

 

Salary from £36,647 to £47,456 pa inclusive of London allowance

 

This is a fixed term appointment for 3 years (to June 2024)

 

The ForestLAB is a newly launched joint programme between the African Conservation Development Group and the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at LSE. The aim of the ForestLAB is to study and create a world class model of natural ecosystems management, which is environmentally, socially and economically sustainable.

 

The successful candidate will work in the ‘Natural Capital’ research theme to measure natural capital stocks and link this to the wider macro-development picture and on-the-ground outcomes for people and communities. The research will utilise quantitative approaches to spatial data analysis of, for example, ecosystem services as well as connecting these data to natural capital accounting frameworks.

 

Candidates will have a PhD, or soon to be completed PhD, in Environmental Economics/ Resource Economics/ Ecological Economics or relevant fields of economics. A strong technical background and research interests in environmental/ ecological economics and sustainability and excellent empirical and computational skills for quantitative and spatial data analyses, including experience with databases, and use of advanced statistical software and spatial mapping software are essential. Experience working on or in-depth knowledge of some of the following topics: wealth accounting; natural capital accounting; economics of ecosystems and biodiversity is desirable. Willingness and flexibility to travel for project-related fieldwork to Gabon and sub-Saharan Africa are also desirable.
