Research Officer in Social Care Economics and/or Projections – 2 posts
Salary from £37,197 to £44,802 pa inclusive with potential to progress to £48,168 pa inclusive of London allowance
This is a fixed term appointment until December 2023
The Care Policy and Evaluation Centre is a research centre at the LSE. Directed by Dr Jose-Luis Fernandez, CPEC undertakes research particularly in the areas of long-term care and mental health economics and policy.
CPEC is seeking to appoint two full-time Research Officers to start as soon as possible until December 2023 to support a number of externally funded research studies within the Centre, with particular contributions to research within the NIHR Policy Research Unit in Adult Social Care (ASCRU) and the NIHR Policy Research Unit in the Economics of Health Systems and Interface with Social Care (ESHCRU).
The Research Officers will be expected to apply quantitative methods to contribute to the evaluation of the English social care and health care systems, and will be involved in: extracting, manipulating and analysing quantitative data using different statistical and econometric modelling methods, contributing to the drafting of project reports and papers and to the dissemination of findings to a range of stakeholders, including funders, policy analysts and other academics.
The Research Officer(s) in Social Care Economics will focus on the application of micro-econometric methods for evaluating social care and health care policies.
Candidates should have advanced econometrics skills for policy evaluation; experience of quantitative economic policy evaluation would be desirable.
The Research Officer(s) in Social Care Projections will focus on the application of simulation methods for developing projections of future demand/expenditure for health and social care services in England.
Candidates should have advanced simulation modelling skills; experience of building/contributing to models projecting public service demand/expenditure would be desirable.
Across these roles, Candidates should have:
· A Postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline, such as economics, health services research, health policy or social policy, with quantitative methods training
· A PhD, or be working towards completion of a PhD, or have other research experience that demonstrates the capacity to produce independent original research
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to communicate research findings effectively
· Ability to manage own workload and work to tight timescales.
