LSE Fellow in Gender and Security

Salary is competitive and not less than £34,736 pa inclusive of London allowance

This is a fixed term appointment for 12 months

The Department of Gender Studies was established in 1993 as the Gender Institute to address the major intellectual challenges posed by contemporary changes in gender relations. This remains a central aim of the Institute today, which is the largest research and teaching unit of its kind in Europe. The Gender Institute is interested in mapping and intervening in the gendered nature of social processes, and believes that an integrated interdisciplinary and global approach is needed to do so. In our research and teaching we aim to combine theory and practice with an interdisciplinary and transnational perspective. 

We are looking to recruit a candidate at the level of LSE Fellow in Gender and Security to teach on our MSc programme in Women, Peace and Security as well as contribute to our core course in gender theory or gender research.

Candidates should have completed or be close to completing a PhD in social sciences, humanities or related subject or a closely related subject, by the post start date; A very good knowledge of and developing research record in the inter-related fields of gender and security and a focus on one or more of the following: gender and peacemaking, conflict resolution, peace building and post-conflict reconstruction; human rights, international law and transitional justice; countering violent extremism, securitisation; political economy approaches to violence; sexuality, embodiment and war; critical military studies; the humanitarian and aid industry or other related fields. Candidates should also have excellent communication and presentation skills; the ability to work in close partnership with fellow teachers, including on a one-on-one basis and in small groups, and to provide effective support, as necessary. Demonstrable teaching experience in gender studies and areas within the Women, Peace and Security agenda and relevant teaching experience at graduate level would be desirable.
