Research Officer

Salary is competitive and not less than £34,156 pa inclusive

This is a fixed term appointment for up to 3 months with the possibility of extension for a further 3.5 years

The Middle East Centre, in partnership with the Department of International Development, seeks to recruit a full-time Research Officer to work on the Middle East component of the DFID-funded Conflict Research Programme. The role involves conducting and disseminating original research on the region-wide drivers of conflict across the Middle East as well as assisting colleagues in planning and running research activities.

This appointment runs until the end of the inception phase of this project on 30 September. Should the inception phase be successful, funding will be available for the position for a further 3.5 years.

Candidates should have:

·         PhD in Comparative Politics, International Sociology, International Relations or International Security of the Middle East

·         High quality published research on the Middle East

·         Knowledge of the international research community working on conflict in the Middle East

·         Good knowledge of Arabic
