The International Growth Centre (IGC)

Economics Editor and VoxDev Managing Editor – London

Salary from £34,156 - £41,317 pa inclusive

The International Growth Centre (IGC) aims to promote sustainable growth in developing countries by providing demand-led policy advice based on frontier research. VoxDev is a new research into policy platform where economists and policy practitioners can share and debate emerging development policy challenges.

This is a unique opportunity to set up and develop VoxDev, working closely with the editor Tavneet Suri. The successful candidate will make extensive use of their skills as an economist to translate complex, technical material from frontier economics into short and longer pieces for general and policy audiences. S/he will source inspiring and relevant research, and commission and edit blog posts, and longer format content. The role combines editorial responsibility for both IGC and VoxDev websites.  S/he will edit a series of publications aimed at communicating IGC’s work to key audiences, and play a leading role in shaping IGC's contribution to global debates on growth.

This role requires someone with practical knowledge of development economics who is passionate about communicating academic research to a policy audience. The successful candidate will hold a post-graduate degree (MSc/MPA/MPP) in economics, public policy/administration or development economics, and proven track record in a relevant editorial function. The role works with researchers to draw out policy implications from academic research and use these insights to present IGC research to policymakers, both nationally and to a global audience. A dynamic and entrepreneurial approach is essential, as is the proven ability to build relationships and gain respect from top international researchers. Excellent written and verbal communications are essential.

This is a full-time position based within LSE. The role will be offered on a fixed term contract until 30th September 2018, with extension subject to funding.  Starting salary will be £34,156 with progression in role.
