LSE Fellow in International Development and Humanitarian Emergencies

 

£34,736 to £42,019 pa inclusive with potential to progress to £45,212 pa inclusive of London allowance

 


 

This is a fixed term appointment for 2 years (with potential to increase to 3 years)

 

 

The Department of International Development is seeking to appoint an LSE Fellow who is able to make an important contribution to teaching, at postgraduate level, and research in international development or humanitarian studies.

 

Based in the Department of International Development, the post holder will contribute to the intellectual life of the School through conducting high-quality research, engaging in high-quality teaching as instructed by the Head of Department, and participating in the School and wider Department activities.  The teaching will largely be on the department’s core course on the politics of the humanitarian system (DV 428 ‘Managing Humanitarianism’). The post holder will also have responsibility for playing a major role in coordinating the DV453 development consultancy.

 

Candidates should have completed or be close to completing a PhD in development studies, political science, sociology, anthropology or related field, by the post start date. They will need to have a very good knowledge of the academic literature in one or more areas of the politics, sociology or anthropology (or related disciplines) of a major aspect of international humanitarianism, complex emergencies and/or development in fragile states.

Candidates should also have a developing research record on a major aspect of international humanitarianism, (or) complex emergencies or development in fragile states; excellent communication and presentation skills; and the ability to work in close partnership with fellow teachers, including on a one-on-one basis and in small groups, and to provide effective support, as necessary. Relevant teaching experience would be desirable.
