The Role
Applications are invited for a Research Officer to work on the EU-funded project Narrative Science under the direction of the principal investigator, Professor Mary S. Morgan. This team project will investigate how, when, and why scientists use narratives to explain their work within their own communities (www.lse.ac.uk/Economic-History/Research/Research-Projects). Each researcher will develop their own case materials within the overall project, working - by agreement with the project leader - on particular topics and fields of science past and present.
Candidates must have a PhD in history of science or a closely related field (including narrative studies, etc.) provided that you have some experience of historical research work; or you must have an equivalent track record of independent and original research. The successful candidate should also hold the ability to communicate effectively in spoken forms about their research, and write effectively for both academic audiences in their field, and for broader audiences within academia and beyond. The ability to maintain an effective mode of record keeping during research, and to think beyond the history to interrogate aspects of narrativity in the topic-field of study and explore its functions in that particular context and the wider context of that time and science are essential.
To find out more information about the Narrative Science project please visit the Research pages of the Department of Economic History website, www.lse.ac.uk/Economic-History/Research/Research-Projects.
