Assistant Professorial Lecturer in Local Economic Development and Planning
Salary is no less than £54,984 per annum (pay award pending) and the salary scale can be found on the LSE website
The Department of Geography & Environment at LSE, one of the leading Geography departments in the world according to the 2019 QS World University Subject Rankings, is looking to recruit an Assistant Professorial Lecturer in Local Economic Development and Planning to join a very strong and growing group including local economic development experts and regional and urban planners.
Please note that this is an Education Career Track post. Candidates for these posts should have a track record of excellence in teaching and a strong commitment to education. The appointee's work will focus on the delivery of outstanding teaching to students at the LSE, as detailed in the person specification.
As an Assistant Professorial Lecturer you will be expected to deliver excellence in course design, delivery and management, inspirational teaching, a demonstrable contribution to student learning and advice, and a strong contribution to departmental educational, administrative and collegial activities. The role entails leadership of teaching, administration, supervision, assessment and support to students on postgraduate courses involving the teaching of Local Economic Development and Planning; oversight and support to students of the MSc Local Economic Development; and organisation and participation in co-curricular and extra-curricular learning activities with undergraduate and postgraduate departmental students.
Candidates should have: expertise, to a demonstrably high level, in Economic Geography, Local Economic Development, and/or Planning Studies; a completed PhD, or be close to obtaining a PhD, in a relevant field by the post start date; evidence of an excellent track record in teaching; ability to teach, supervise and mentor students at postgraduate level; ability to teach, and convey contemporary research findings, on public policy analysis in local economic development and/or planning studies in emerging and developing countries, and/or the developed world. In addition, candidates should have ability to organise and participate in initiatives to contribute to the Department’s provision of experiential learning for geography and environment students (including field-trips and other off-campus educational activities for undergraduate and postgraduate students).
