IGC Senior Hub Economist for the Country Programme

Salary: £42,703 to £49,442 per annum

This appointment is open ended and is currently funded until 31st March 2018 and may be extended.

The IGC is looking for well qualified economist with leadership skills and a passion for economic policy to help lead a dynamic programme in over 14 developing countries.

The IGC aims to promote sustainable growth in developing countries by providing demand-led policy advice based on frontier research. The IGC directs a global network of world-leading researchers and in-country teams in Africa and South Asia and works closely with partner governments to generate high quality research and policy advice on key growth challenges. Based at LSE and in partnership with the University of Oxford, the IGC is funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID).
 

Working closely with and under the delegated authority of the IGC Country Programme Director, the IGC Senior Hub Economist for the Country Programme leads on the management of the country programmes from the London Hub, both in oversight of Hub Economists who are responsible for coordinating individual country programmes and also in direct engagement with a subset of country programmes. In both the oversight and direct-engagement parts of the role, the Senior HE supports and monitors the implementation of country strategies, working closely with country teams to support and contribute to world-class research, to maximise growth policy impact, and to draw out key lessons from IGC work.

 

The successful applicant will:

  • possess a Masters degree in economics, public policy/administration,  development economics, or a related discipline
  • have a demonstrated understanding of policy-relevant economic research, and experience of the research – policy interface, including knowledge of different policy influencing strategies
  • have a minimum of three years’ work experience in a professional and public policy relevant role
  • have experience of establishing and managing budgets and operational processes, ideally in an international organisation

 

This is a full-time position based in the IGC Head Office located within LSE, in central London. Starting salary will be £42,703 with progression in role. Exceptional candidates may start further up the salary band.
