Salary from £36,647 to £44,140 pa inclusive with potential to progress to £47,456 pa inclusive of London allowance
LSE is the world’s leading social sciences institution, established for the betterment of society. The School is committed to widening access to and participation in higher education and ‘developing LSE for everyone’ is a key objective of the new LSE 2030 strategy.
The Widening Participation team, based in the Academic Registrar’s Division, leads our efforts to widen access to LSE for UK Undergraduate students from under-represented groups and supports the attainment and progression to HE for hundreds of young people each year. The team, comprising 13 staff, leads on the delivery of key elements of the School’s outreach and widening access strategy, as set out in our Access and Participation Plan.
We are seeking a Widening Participation Officer to lead the delivery and management of key pre-entry outreach and widening participation programmes. Initially this will focus on shaping and developing a number of our pre-entry outreach programmes with school pupils, to support commitments in our Access and Participation Plan. The role-holder will also oversee activities designed to widen access to LSE and other selective institutions for students from under-represented groups, such as subject outreach delivered in collaboration with academic departments and our annual Black Achievement Conference.
Reporting to the Deputy Head of Widening Participation (Programme Operations), the post-holder will:
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the School’s outreach and widening access priorities, as outlined in the LSE Access and Participation Plan and LSE 2030 strategy
- Develop, manage and evaluate a range of outreach and widening participation programmes for young people and to widen access to LSE and other selective HEIs
- Establish and develop effective working relationships with partner schools, colleges and external funders through a range of projects and activities support target learners through their education journey
- Line manage up to three Widening Participation Co-ordinators and other staff involved in the delivery of projects and activities within the team
The successful candidate should have:
- Excellent knowledge of UK secondary and higher education and key issues in widening participation
- An ability to work effectively and build strong relationships with people at all levels including academics, current students, pupils, parents/carers and teachers.
- Experience of managing the delivery of complex projects for young people on time and to budget, especially when delivered in collaboration with internal and external partners
- Experience of coaching and managing staff and contributing to wider team management
