Archivist
Salary from £40,229 to £48,456 pa inclusive with potential to progress to £52,095 pa inclusive of London allowance
The Library is at the heart of LSE, one of the world’s leading social science universities and serves a vibrant community of students and staff in the centre of London. The Library is known both nationally and internationally for its extensive collections, its involvement in innovative projects and its high quality services.
We are looking for a qualified archivist to join the Archives and Special Collections Team. The post-holder will be responsible for processing a range of archive collections, with a particular focus on identifying, selecting, appraising and cataloguing material to add to LSE’s institutional archives and upgrading the existing catalogue of the School’s archives. The post-holder will also be responsible for managing LSE’s small art and antiques collection.
You will be educated to degree level or equivalent and have a postgraduate qualification in archive administration or equivalent experience. You should have experience of working with corporate or institutional archives or other types of large and complex collections, with experience of cataloguing using CALM or another archives management system. You will be able to use your professional judgement to make and justify appraisal decisions and other decisions which affect the long-term care and use of research materials. You should be self-motivated and able to work independently, as well as being able to work with others as part of a team and to communicate effectively with a range of library users and colleagues at all levels of seniority. Please note that this role is primarily campus-based due to the requirement for working with physical heritage material.
