 Salaries will be commensurate with experience, considering pay equity within the Centre.  Salary is no less than £50,000 gross per annum plus 10% of net retirement contribution supplement and inclusive of allowances

 

The International Growth Centre (IGC) works with policymakers in developing countries to promote inclusive and sustainable growth through pathbreaking research. We generate new evidence and innovative new ideas to improve the productivity of people and firms, as the key driver of sustainable economic development, and to support our government partners in transitioning to low-carbon growth pathways and protecting vulnerable populations. The IGC is a global research centre with a network of world-leading researchers and in-country teams and initiatives working across Africa, South Asia, and the Middle East. Based at LSE and in partnership with the University of Oxford, we are majority funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).

 

The IGC is currently a Country Economist to be based in Amman. Country Economists work with the country leadership team in developing and implementing the country strategy, identifying opportunities for policy influence, connecting researchers with policy makers and supporting the generation of research projects, and undertaking economic analysis and writing policy briefs. The team supports researchers in implementing research projects and identifying opportunities for policy engagement; manages country programme activities and generates reports on research and policy developments; contributes to the ongoing evaluation of the programme; supports the dissemination of research outputs to maximise policy impact; and works on IGC research projects where opportunities arise. The country leadership team will include a Country Director and Lead Academic and the team also includes a Junior Programme Officer.

 

Applicants should have strong economics skills, excellent quantitative skills in economic analysis, a sophisticated understanding of economic policy, and hold a post-graduate degree in economics, public policy, or a related discipline. Successful applicants will be dynamic self-starters with excellent written and oral communication skills. They will also demonstrate a team-oriented, respectful and collaborative approach to working with others. Applicants must be fluent in spoken and written Arabic.
