Salary from £31,029 to £35,635 pa inclusive with potential to progress to £38,283 pa inclusive of London allowance

 

LSE is the world’s leading social sciences institution, established for the betterment of society. The School is committed to widening access to and participation in higher education and ‘developing LSE for everyone’ is a key objective of the new LSE 2030 strategy.

 

The Widening Participation team, based in the Academic Registrar’s Division, leads our efforts to widen access to LSE for UK Undergraduate students from under-represented groups and supports the attainment and progression to HE for hundreds of young people each year. The team, comprising 13 staff, leads on the delivery of key elements of the School’s outreach and widening access strategy, as set out in our Access and Participation Plan.

 

We are seeking two Widening Participation Coordinators to join the team to support the design, development and delivery of our longer-term pre-entry outreach and widening participation programmes for young people who are from groups currently under-represented at LSE. The role-holders will also deliver some discrete events and activities designed to widen access to LSE and other selective institutions for students from under-represented groups, for example schools liaison activities, subject outreach delivered in collaboration with academic departments or events like our annual Black Achievement Conference.

 

In the first instance, it is anticipated that one of the role-holders will focus on developing and coordinating a new programme and activities with post-16 pupils from our target groups who live outside of London and the South East, and the other will focus on developing and coordinating a programme for Black African and Black Caribbean pupils of secondary school age.

Candidates should have  
  • General knowledge of UK secondary and higher education and widening participation issue 
  • Experience of working with children and/or young people in an educational environment
  • Experience of organising events and project
  • Experience of supporting with the design and development of projects or events
  • Experience of liaising with key internal and external stakeholders who support the projects such as academics, funders and companies
  • Ability to understand and convey information in a clear and accurate manner

 

 

This position will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check with childrens’ barred list. Any offer of employment made is conditional on receipt of a satisfactory DBS check.
