The Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment (GRI) has established a new Centre for Economic Transition Expertise (CETEx), focused on leveraging, strengthening and amplifying research, and developing well targeted policy analysis and other outputs, by convening policymakers, and by providing technical support, assistance and capacity building. We seek to appoint an experienced Policy Fellow to work on policy-oriented research projects within the Monetary and Financial Markets pillar of CETEx, contributing to a major sustainable finance programme focused on the role of central banks, financial supervisors, governments and international organisations in the context of nature loss and deforestation. The post holder will employ their reputation for rigorous, user-focused analysis and policy-orientated work and related activities and engagement, also at a senior level, to ensure that research outputs have demonstrable impact and inform the public debate.

The post holder will lead key aspects of a research strategy and engagement programme focussed on integrating nature and broader environmental degradation into the current climate-related work of CETEx with an emphasis on monetary, prudential, developmental and fiscal policy. This entails working with colleagues to develop a strategy for Governance and Staffing, a Budget and a Research and Policy Content Strategy for a new Nature Programme at CETEx. The post holder will also deliver 2-3 projects such as closed-door roundtables, workshops, or policy briefs on specific topics. They will lead the organisation of relevant engagement activities to gain feedback on the Research and Policy Content Strategy by presenting at meetings, seminars and workshops, with senior policy experts and policymakers to ensure that planned outputs would have demonstrable impact and inform decision-making on nature-related issues.

Candidates should have a MSc in economics, climate/environmental governance, environmental/ecological economics or a closely related field. The appointee will have work experience in a central bank, financial supervisor, environment or finance ministry or strong working experience on topics related to environmental risks, biodiversity/nature loss, deforestation and climate change. Additionally, they will have a strong understanding of academic and policy research on topics relating to climate change, environmental degradation and the low carbon transition. It is essential that the post holder have experience working with senior policy – and decision-makers in related sustainable finance networks and experience in organising workshops or roundtable events to bring together stakeholders across different expertise. Please note that the post holder will be expected to travel for this role.
