Assistant Professorial Lecturer (Data Science for Public Policy)
Salaries will be on the appropriate salary scale and will be commensurate with experience, taking into account pay equity within the Department.

The LSE School of Public Policy equips students with the skills and ideas to transform people and societies. We are an international community where ideas and practice meet, creating professionals with the ability to analyse, understand and resolve the challenges of contemporary governance. From academic year 2023/24, we will supplement our graduate teaching portfolio with a new two-year MPA in Data Science for Public Policy, providing opportunities for exceptional students to learn how to apply data science tools in creating effective public policy.
We are now seeking an Assistant Professorial Lecturer (Data Science for Public Policy), who will lead the first year core (compulsory) course ‘Data Science for Public Policy’ (PP4xx). The post-holder will deliver outstanding teaching in Data Science for Public Policy, producing high-quality learning resources and developing innovative and attractive learning experiences, shaping curriculum development. The post-holder will hold extensive course-level weekly office hours to support learning and to resolve student queries, and lead on all assessment and course management issues, including responding to and incorporating student feedback. The post-holder will also engage with the life of the department including student recruitment, building a student community and alumni engagement.
The successful candidate must have a PhD from a university of high standing, in public policy or one of its related disciplines such as economics, political science, development or public management. Expertise and significant experience is essential with core data science tools, particularly machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, and related tools and concepts. Awareness and exposure to ongoing technical and policy discussions surrounding artificial intelligence, big data, data ethics and the limitations of data science tools is also essential, as is experience of using Python for Data Science in a public policy setting.
Candidates must have a track record of successful teaching, preferably at the graduate level, and a willingness to sustain engagement with students, and to offer additional teaching opportunities, to ensure learning objectives are delivered, adjusting teaching to meet students’ needs and expectations. A commitment to delivering high quality teaching and to fostering a positive learning environment for students, including pastoral care.
