CIVICA Open Social Science Researcher (LSE Research Assistant)

Salary from £31,029 to £35,635 pa inclusive with potential to progress to £38,283 pa inclusive of London allowance 

This is a fixed term appointment from Feb 2022 to 31 Dec 2023 (17.5 hours per week)

We seek a motivated and enthusiastic person who has an interest in enhancing progress towards Open Science ways of working in the social sciences and in the context of European universities.

Our project is part of the Horizon 2020 CIVICA Research project and seeks to develop a programme of cultural change towards better and wider use of Open Social Science approaches across the eight CIVICA universities, in the first instance, and across European social science more generally. The post is based in the Research Support team in the Library (which provides services on Open Access, Research Data Management and Bibliometrics).

The post holder will work under the supervision of project task leaders Prof. Patrick Dunleavy (Editor in Chief, LSE Press) and Helen Porter (Research Support Manager, LSE Library). Main duties and responsibilities include:

• Collaborating on the development of publishable outputs to promote cultural change in open science modes of research in the social sciences.
• Contributing to the dissemination of ideas and community-building through CIVICA liaison, blogging and social media channels.
• Assisting with and undertaking research into open science practices in the qualitative social science (primary focus) and further developing open science practices in quantitative social sciences (second focus).
• Liaising with relevant academics, library and professional services staff at LSE and the other CIVICA alliance universities.

Candidates should have:

• A PhD degree or PhD research experience in social sciences, including experience of qualitative and quantitative research OR a strong Masters degree or equivalent in social sciences, including experience of qualitative and quantitative research.
• Excellent understanding of a range of social science research approaches across a number of quantitative and qualitative disciplines.
• Keen interest in (or commitment to learn about) Open Science and social science practices across CIVICA institutions.
