LSE is committed to building a diverse, equitable and truly inclusive university Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment Research Officer (Conservation and Development) Salary from £36,647 to £44,140 pa with potential to progress to £47,456 pa inclusive of London allowance This is a fixed term appointment for 3 years (to June 2024) The aim of the ForestLAB is to study and create a world class model of natural ecosystems management, which is environmentally, socially and economically sustainable. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with the ‘Conservation and Development’ and ‘Behaviours and Attitudes’ research teams within the ForestLAB project to design and implement a baseline survey in Grande Mayumba. This survey will examine individual and community behaviours and attitudes, along with socio-economic outcomes and stakeholder perspectives. The candidate will then build on this scoping phase of research to design and lead a focused piece of fieldwork-based research for the project.
Candidates will have a PhD, or soon to be completed PhD, in in Geography, International Development, Conservation and Development (or a related discipline). Research experience in conservation and society (preferably in Africa) is desirable. Interdisciplinary research experience in one or more areas of conservation and climate change adaptation; integrated development planning; community-based conservation; market-led conservation and development; or related areas, is essential. A good command of French and English, and the willingness and flexibility to travel for project-related fieldwork to Gabon and sub-Saharan Africa are required. Prior experience of conducting fieldwork, especially in sub-Saharan Africa, would be desirable.
