Assistant Professor of Philosophy

 

Salaries will be on the appropriate salary scale and will be commensurate with experience, taking into account pay equity within the Department.

The salary scale starts at £58,519 per annum (pay award pending) and the salary scale can be found on the LSE website

 

This appointment is due to commence from 1 September 2023

 

The Department of Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method is committed to doing excellent research and teaching in analytic philosophy in a manner that is continuous with the social and natural sciences and socially relevant. It is also committed to creating an inclusive environment for philosophical debate that engages with a wide range of perspectives. It seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor who will contribute to the intellectual life of the Department and the School by conducting and publishing outstanding research, engaging in excellent teaching, taking on assigned administrative roles, and participating in the wider activities of both.

 

Candidates must have expertise and research interests in Philosophy. The area of research specialisation is open, but candidates must be willing and able to make a substantial research-led contribution to the Department’s core teaching at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level, and in particular to large programmes in Philosophy and Public Policy, Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) and Philosophy and Economics. They must also be willing and able to develop connections in research and teaching with other disciplines at LSE.

 

Candidates will have a track record or trajectory of internationally excellent publications and proven ability to publish in top journals or with leading book publishers in Philosophy. Candidates must also have a well-developed strategy for future research that has the potential to result in world-leading publications. They will have, or be very near completion of, a PhD in Philosophy or related field by the post start date. In addition, candidates will have a proven commitment to excellent teaching and to fostering a positive learning environment for students, as evidenced by feedback from students and colleagues.
