Salary from £36,647 to £44,140 pa inclusive with potential to progress to £47,456 pa inclusive of London allowance

 

This is a fixed term appointment from 1 September 2020

to 31 August 2021

 

The Department of International History at the LSE invites applications for an LSE Fellow in the History of East Asia (defined as China, Japan and/or Korea) since c.1839, for the next academic session to commence in September 2020. The Fellow will be expected to teach on courses in the Department which include HY235, Modernity and the State in East Asia: China, Japan and Korea since 1840, and HY461: East Asia in the Age of Imperialism, 1839-1945.

 

The successful candidate will contribute to the scholarship and intellectual life of the School by conducting teaching and research which will enhance the School’s reputation as a research-led teaching institution, with appropriate mentoring from department. They will be expected to participate in teaching at both undergraduate and masters’ level for up to a maximum of eight classroom contact hours per week and will be expected to participate in the administrative and social activities of the Department.

 

The successful candidate will have completed or be close to completing a PhD in history by the post start date; have a very good knowledge of the history of East Asia since c.1839; have a developing research record in the history of East Asia since c. 1839; have excellent communication and presentation skills and the ability to work in close partnership with fellow teachers, including on a one-on-one basis and in small groups, and to provide effective support, as necessary; and relevant teaching experience would be desirable.
