The Firoz Lalji Institute for Africa (FLIA) focuses on engagement with Africa through cutting-edge research, teaching and public events, strengthening LSE’s long-term commitment to placing Africa at the heart of understandings and debates on global issues. The FLIA Africa Engagement Programme (AEP) focuses on strengthening LSE’s connection to Africa by fostering relationships with African academic institutions, employers, donors, and alumni. The aim of the programme is to build strategic relationships that generate opportunities for LSE alumni, support the development of the African Research Fellowship Programme, develop activities with the School’s PhD candidates researching Africa, and raises further funding to support the Institute’s activities. The FLIA is looking to recruit an innovative, flexible, and proactive AEP Programme Officer that is interested in helping strengthen and expand this programme.

The AEP Officer role provides administrative and programme support for the Africa Engagement Programme across its operations. The officer will support external engagement, data management, communications activities, event planning, and administration for the programme. As a key member of the AEP team, your initiative, organisation, and creativity will be crucial to ensuring the smooth running of AEP and its success. The AEP Officer will be part of the core Institute staff, and as such will be expected to contribute to new and ongoing initiatives as they develop. The Institute is looking for a capable, technologically savvy graduate with experience in event planning, communications, and data management. The ideal candidate will possess strong organisational skills, knowledge of the African context, particularly the African job market, and can proactively solve issues in a timely fashion.

The role offers scope to develop new skillsets and responsibilities in the areas of event management, strategic communications, donor engagement, and developing institutional partnerships. The role will be responsible for supporting the planning and implementation of a range of events and communication activities held under the umbrella of the Africa Engagement Programme, including the Career Transition Lab, an annual workshop that will focus on supporting post-graduate students who plan to transition into employment on the African continent. On top of this, the postholder will engage in relationship building with students, alumni, staff and donors, they will organise meetings with key divisional stakeholders, and provide support for contractual and partnership processes.

We offer an occupational pension scheme, generous annual leave and excellent training and development opportunities.
