The Firoz Lalji Institute for Africa (FLIA)’s role at the LSE is to strengthen LSE’s long-term commitment to placing Africa at the heart of understandings and debates about global issues. The FLIA works to forge new links with African scholars and institutions and increase the visibility of Africa in the LSE’s teaching, research, and policy engagement. The FLIA is growing rapidly, which since its establishment five years ago has led to the Centre’s transformation into an Institute in 2021. The FLIA currently hosts four defined and expanding programmes: the Programme for African Leadership (PfAL), the FLIA Events programme (including the annual Africa Summit), the research programme (largely focused on African research), and the Africa Engagement Programme (AEP).

The Programme for African Leadership (PfAL) is an extra-curricular programme focused on leadership development, skills development, and networking, available to post-graduate students of African nationality currently studying at LSE. PfAL brings together bright and ambitious African graduate students at LSE to support their development into value-driven and effective leaders through a structured set of activities and events, creating an alumni network whose members are committed to having a positive impact on the lives of people on the continent.

The FLIA is looking for an experienced, dynamic, motivated, organised and personable senior manager for PfAL who will be responsible for all aspects of the programme and student experience. The post holder is expected to manage the recruitment and admission of students into the programme each year, as well as design and tailor the yearly programme to achieve learning objectives and outcomes. The post holder will also take the lead on the strategic development of the programme as it continues to grow.

Candidates should have excellent communication skills; experience with teaching and leadership development; programme management; have lived and worked in Africa; and have the proven ability to design and facilitate seminars, workshops and debates. The candidate should have a post-graduate degree in a social science subject, experience of line management, knowledge of community or economic development and have the proven ability to build relationships with donors and potential donors.
