Salary from £36,647 to £44,140 pa inclusive with potential to progress to £47,456 pa inclusive of London allowance

 

This is a fixed term appointment for 12 months

 

The LSE Department of Psychological and Behavioural Science (PBS) teaches and conducts cutting-edge research that is both based in and applied to the real world.  PBS is committed to developing the School’s role as a world leader in the researching and teaching of psychological and behavioural science. The Department is also fully committed to the continued development of the LSE Behavioural Lab for Teaching and Research (BL), a school-wide state-of-the-art behavioural resource jointly co-managed by PBS and by the LSE Department of Management (DoM).

 

The postholder will be expected to independently and originally contribute to the development of behavioural and experimental research on the policy responses to the Covid-19 pandemic and other future epidemics. The postholder will develop and carry forward a coherent high-quality research strategy in this area with international research and policy impact.

 

The position is funded by a large European Commission H2020 grant awarded to the LSE BL as part of the PERISCOPE (Pan-European Response to the Impact of Covid-19 and future Pandemics and Epidemics) consortium, a network of thirty-two top institutions led by the University of Pavia (Italy). Within the PERISCOPE consortium, the BL will lead a component of the behavioural and experimental work package aiming at systematically mapping the effectiveness and unintended consequences of policy responses to Covid-19 and other pandemics on different compliance behaviours.

 

Candidates should have a PhD in economics, behavioural economics, psychology, or a related discipline where behavioural, experimental and quantitative research formed a key part. The PhD should be awarded, or near completion (i.e. defended successfully) by the post start date. Candidates should have expertise in experimental research methods, including the design and implementation of online, lab and field experiments and related aspects (pre-registration, ethics approval). Candidates should have strong familiarity with statistical, econometric, quantitative, and/or machine learning methods, including the analysis of large datasets, and with experimental, statistical, econometric and/or machine learning software. The successful candidate will have the ability to conduct high-quality research and publish in journals of international standing.
