Research Officer in Data Science
Salary from £36,647 to £44,140 pa inclusive with potential to progress to £47,456 pa inclusive of London allowance
This is a fixed term appointment for 12 months, starting no later than 1 November 2021
The Inclusion Initiative (TII) launched in November 2020 with the aim of bringing behavioural science insights to financial and professional services firms, allowing them to enhance the inclusion of all talent. Simultaneously, TII aims to produce academically rigorous and relevant research that links directly to this core purpose. One of TII’s aims is to create an Inclusion Index using big data from sources external to the firm.
The postholder will contribute to the research objectives of TII with a focus on projects that involve big data. They will be expected to contribute to the development of an index to measure inclusion at the firm level, collaborating with colleagues at the LSE and in a large investment bank. The postholder will be expected to design and implement methodological approaches that will lead to new insights at the frontier of knowledge in the social sciences. They will continually update their knowledge and understanding and translate knowledge of advances in the field into research activity. They will have an opportunity to lead and publish academic papers on this topic. The postholder will work directly with Dr Grace Lordan on projects that relate to the TII research agenda.
Candidates should have PhD in computer science, data science, economics, financial engineering, statistics or a related quantitative subject, where working with large data sets to achieve causal inference formed a key part (awarded, or near completion) OR a MSc in these disciplines with evidence of publications in top international journals. They should also have strong programming skills in scripting languages (e.g. Python, R) and the ability to conduct high-quality research and publish in journals of international standing.
