Assistant Professor in Economic Geography

Salary is competitive with Departments at our peer institutions worldwide and not less than £58,519 pa inclusive. The full salary scale can be found on the LSE website

Based in the Department of Geography and Environment, you will contribute to the intellectual life of the School through conducting and publishing outstanding quality research, engaging in high quality teaching as instructed by the Head of Department, and participating in the School and wider Department activities. You will join one of the world’s best known urban economics and economic geography groups, which enjoys very strong international student demand across a wide range of graduate and undergraduate programmes.

You will have a PhD in Economic Geography, Economics or a related discipline, by the post start date. Candidates that have completed their PhD studies some time prior to the time of application should be able to demonstrate that they have started to develop a novel and independent research agenda – significantly distinct from their doctoral research (this is particularly important for candidates who completed their studies some time prior to the date of application and/or candidates who completed their studies at the Department).

You will have expertise in Economic Geography and Local and Regional Economic Development with ideally some research focused on emerging and developing economies. You will have proven ability, or potential, to publish in refereed international journals and a clear, well developed and viable strategy for future outstanding research that has the potential to result in world-leading publications. You will be expected to work as part of a team in assisting the smooth running of the Department and its teaching programmes, particularly the MSc in Local Economic Development (including a willingness to act as Programme Director). You will have a track record of excellence in teaching and the ability to design and teach courses in Economic Geography and Local and Regional Economic Development at BSc and MSc level as well as in Executive Education programmes.
