Business Applications Specialist

Salary from £50,606 to £58,505 pa inclusive with potential to progress to £65,157 pa inclusive of London allowance

 

 

The London School of Economics is a cosmopolitan university situated in the vibrant centre of London that specialises in the study of social sciences. Our Data and Technology Services division provides services to over 14,000 staff and student users.

 

The post holder will be responsible for the maintenance and optimisation of business applications and the dependent infrastructure as defined within the Data and Technology service catalogue.

 

Working within the Business Applications team to supply highly available and functional business application services to Business led tech teams, the service lines and other dependent services and users. This position will maintain business application services throughout the service life cycle, ensuring continual service improvement through enhancing productivity and improving efficiency, with a specific focus for our on premise applications in Linux and Microsoft operating systems.

 

They will take the lead on maintenance projects, subject matter expertise and third line support within the maintenance and operational plans for systems related to application services, integrations between databases and applications and reporting infrastructure.

 

The Business Application Specialist will:

  •  Lead activity on tech debt remediation for application operating systems and infrastructure marked as ‘End of Life’
  •  Work closely with service owners to understand application roadmaps and ensure best value from available product features
  •  To ensure continual service improvement through in particular:
  •  Automation of repetitive support tasks
  •  Remote management of systems to monitor performance and respond to alerts
  •  Devolving support tasks to front line services or service lines (shift left) to improve efficiency of the service
  •  Identifying opportunities for enhancing productivity and the user experience
  •  Ensure maintained services are patched and secure according to required security standards (CE+) where applicable
  •  Maintain reference documentation such as schematics, technical guidelines, operational standards and details of IT assets
  •  Provide subject matter expertise on business application services to the LSE, including providing technical expertise to support decision making

Candidates should have:

  •  Knowledge of the install, upgrade, maintenance and support of third-party applications, supporting business functions such as HR, Finance and Student Lifecycle Management
  •  Experience of supporting applications based on SQL Server, Oracle and other RDBMS
  •  Experience of managing test, live and development environments for core application infrastructure
