LSE is one of the most international universities in the world, with 75% of our alumni based outside the UK.

The Philanthropy and Global Engagement Division (PAGE) builds lifelong relationships with alumni, volunteers, donors and partners to support LSE’s mission and global impact. The Alumni Engagement function is responsible for leading the School’s relationships with its community of c.240,000 alumni and 6,000 volunteers.

About the role

In the last year, significant investment has been made in alumni engagement at LSE, driven by senior leadership who understand that an engaged alumni community is essential to the future success of the School.

The new Director of Alumni Engagement (equivalent to Senior Director or Executive Director in North America) is an important part of this investment. With oversight of two teams - Alumni Engagement and Departmental Alumni Engagement - the Director will provide visionary leadership of LSE’s alumni engagement strategy, driving a globally leading offer that inspires our community and encourages them to support the School.

The role-holder will draw upon their knowledge of global best practice to evaluate, challenge and enhance our engagement offer, ensuring our alumni benefit from outstanding programmes that drive internationally-benchmarked outcomes.

In this role, you will:

  • Drive implementation of LSE’s alumni engagement strategy, setting ambitious targets that drive the best outcomes for the School and position us as a global leader in alumni relations.
  • Foster a collaborative, customer-focused and high-performing culture within the alumni engagement function.
  • Build and maintain relationships with senior alumni, volunteer leaders, and influential networks to strengthen LSE’s global alumni community.

About you

You will have:

  • Experience in a globally leading alumni engagement setting (ideally in North America or East Asia/South-East Asia), with exceptional understanding of international best practice and the ability to apply these insights to improve LSE’s approach.
  • Experience of development and implementation of strategic engagement plans aligned to long-term vision and goals.
  • Experience of building and leading high-performing, collaborative and happy teams, setting clear goals and creating a positive, inclusive working environment.
  • The credibility and communication skills to be a persuasive and inspiring champion of alumni engagement within the institution.
