Research Officer in Racial Inequalities and Economic Justice

 

Salary from £36,647 to £44,140 pa inclusive with potential to progress to £47,456 pa inclusive of London allowance

 

This is a fixed term appointment for 12 months.

 

The International Inequalities Institute (III) was established by LSE to create a multidisciplinary hub for cutting-edge research, teaching and debate on multiple inequalities around the world.

 

Applications are invited for a twelve-month Research Officer in Racial Inequalities and Economic Justice position to undertake independent research on racial disparities and the economy. These could include inequalities in the labour market; access to services, credit, or housing. It could focus on drivers and determinants of unequal racial outcomes (including intergenerational disadvantages, racist institutions, or economic exclusion). Ideally, the project should contribute to one of the III’s research themes. The post holder will be expected to develop outputs leading to high quality academic publications. 

 

Candidates are asked to submit a short proposal for the project they plan to undertake. The subject matter and regional focus are broadly open, but particular attention will be paid to research focusing on race from Global South perspectives. The post holder should:

 

·        Have a completed PhD in Economics or another social science.

·        Be able to conduct original academic research on substantive research topics that relate to racial inequalities

·        Have proven methodological skills (quantitative or qualitative) which demonstrate the capacity to conduct original and rigorous research

·        Demonstrate the capacity to publish in peer-reviewed academic publications.

·        Be able to play a part in the interdisciplinary research culture of the III

·        Be able to organise workshops, webinars, or seminars related to this research programme

·        Have excellent written and verbal communication skills

·        Have the ability to present research findings to academic and non-academic audiences

·        Have the ability to work as part of a collaborative research team

·        Have the ability to take responsibility for and work independently on specific project tasks

 

 

The post will start on 1st September 2021, or as soon as practicable afterwards.
