Assistant Professor in Sociology (Human Rights and Politics)

 

Salary is no less than £55,974 per annum (pay award pending) and the salary scale can be found on the LSE website

 

The post will commence in September 2021.

 

The Department of Sociology at LSE seeks to hire an outstanding Assistant Professor to add to our internationally renowned, innovative and publicly engaged faculty. The post holder will join the multidisciplinary teaching team on our graduate programmes in Human Rights, and Human Rights and Politics, and make a distinctive contribution to the department’s research profile in these fields.

 

You will have a completed PhD in Sociology or closely related discipline by the post start date; a track record or trajectory of internationally excellent publications in Sociology or cognate disciplines; proven ability, as evidenced by existing publications, or potential to publish in high-quality academic journals or with leading book publishers; and a clear, well developed and viable strategy for future research that has the potential to result in world-leading publications.

 

We encourage applications from candidates undertaking innovative research in one or more of the following areas – human rights and critical legal studies, social justice and human rights practice, approaches to human rights/international law from the Global South, technology and human rights, environment and human rights. Applications from scholars with regional expertise in East Asia, Latin America and/or sub-Saharan Africa are especially welcome. You will demonstrate a developing record of publications in refereed journals, and a commitment to academic research.

 

You should have the ability to conduct high-quality research-led teaching at both undergraduate and post-graduate levels and make contributions to other areas of education and student support in the Department as appropriate.
