The LSE is looking for an ambitious and motivated procurement professional to join its growing procurement team as a Category Manager. The LSE is a public body, but due to its source of funding is exempt from the procedure of the public procurement regulations. This gives the procurement team a unique opportunity to use public sector frameworks, design their own competitions, negotiate, and setup preferred supplier lists alongside other good practice procurement methods that are less common in the wider public sector.

The role requires candidates to hold MCIPS Chartered Status. However, exceptional and motivated candidates that are currently part qualified and are already actively working towards MCIPS would be considered. You would be expected to complete your studies on the job with our support.

The LSE has a non-pay spend in excess of £100 million per year. We have an 8-year programme on Estates projects and a 10-year programme on IT. However, the immediate challenges for this role will be the travel category and outsourced consultancy. We are looking for someone:

·         to commit to providing highest levels of customer/ stakeholder service.

  • with significant knowledge and experience of tendering techniques to deliver clear commercial benefits and value for money.
  • With influence and confidence to constructively challenge goods and services specifications to ensure the LSE secures best value for money by buying the right things.

While you will be responsible for your own category planning, you are a part of a team who will support you. Procurement at LSE is empowering with exciting challenges and learning opportunities yet with a positive outlook towards maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Headed by the Director of Procurement within the Finance Division to whom you will work closely with as well as three category managers, this role being the fourth.

We are the first university to be carbon neutral in the UK and have set an ambitious target to be Net Zero by 2030. Due to the Net Zero by 2030 target, another significant work stream will be the decarbonising of our Scope 3 emissions in our supply chain. Candidates with a strong interest, understanding, academic background or desire to work to responsible procurement standards is highly desirable.

The LSE is an inclusive and diverse employer. We offer an excellent occupational pension scheme, generous annual leave (41 days including public holidays) and excellent training and development opportunities.
