Research Officer in Health and Care Economics

Salary from £36,647 to £44,140 pa inclusive with potential to progress to £47,456 pa inclusive of London allowance

This is a fixed term appointment for 24 months

The Care Policy and Evaluation Centre is a research centre at the LSE. Directed by Dr Jose-Luis Fernandez, CPEC undertakes research particularly in the areas of long-term care and mental health economics and policy. CPEC is seeking to appoint a Research Officer, for a fixed period of 24 months in the first instance, to start in as soon as possible to support a number of externally-funded research studies on the economics of care and support for children and young people as part of a programme led by Dr Eva-Maria Bonin.

The Research Officer will be expected to apply quantitative methods to a range of social care and mental health data to enhance evidence available for policy and practice evaluation of care systems. The role will require carrying out rapid literature reviews,  extracting and collating relevant evidence,  conducting trial-based cost-effectiveness analysis, service use and cost analysis, including micro costing, and economic modelling (decision trees / Markov models) in the context of cost of illness studies.

The Research Officer will also be expected to contribute to the drafting of project reports and papers and to the dissemination of findings to a range of stakeholders, including funders, policy analysts and other academics. The Research Officer will undertake a range of desk and field-based activities, including carrying out background research activities.

Candidates should have:

·       A Postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline, such as health services research, health policy or social policy, with quantitative methods training 

·       A PhD, or be working towards completion of a PhD, or have other research experience that demonstrates the capacity to produce independent original research

·       Economic evaluation skills

·       Experience of applying statistical analysis methods, including multivariate regression analysis and the ability to address missing data

·       Experience of carrying out literature reviews

·       Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to communicate research findings effectively.
