Assistant Professor in Modern South Asian History
Salary is competitive with Departments at our peer institutions worldwide and the minimum salary for an Assistant Professor at the LSE is £61,446 pa inclusive. The full salary scale can be found on the LSE website
The Department of International History is seeking to make an appointment for an Assistant Professor in Modern South Asian History. We invite applications from candidates with research potential and a developing record of publications in top journals, or with leading book publishers, in the history of modern South Asia (ca 1850-2000). We are especially interested in candidates who study South Asia with respect to international, transnational and global developments in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and who have a capacity to undertake research in at least one South Asian language. Applications are welcome on themes that include conflict, empires, political movements, the environment, gender and caste.
The successful candidate will have a completed PhD in history or be close to obtaining a PhD in history by the post start date. They will be expected to offer new courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level in modern South Asian history (ca 1850-2000), as well as contribute to existing programmes and courses, including the MSc in Empires, Colonialism and Globalisation. They will have a clear, well developed and viable strategy for conducting and publishing future world-class research in the history of modern South Asia. They will also be expected to supervise dissertations at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and to supervise students for the PhD programme.
