Research Economist, Policing and Crime
Salary From £37,197 to £44,802 per annum inclusive with potential to progress to £48,168 pa inclusive of London allowance
This is a fixed term appointment for 1 year
The Centre for Economic Performance (CEP) is seeking to appoint a full time Research Economist. The CEP offers an outstandingly dynamic research and training environment with researchers who lead the field.
You will be an economist or quantitative social scientist, who will work with Policing and Crime senior staff, academic partners, and policymakers in central and local government to help manage and sustain rigorous, user-focused, and policy-oriented analysis of local and national crime and policing policies. You will also support our national and local partners to develop and deliver analyses, carry out randomized controlled trials and quasi-experimental evaluations, and advise government bodies.
You must have an undergraduate degree in Economics or other quantitative science discipline, and a Masters in Economics or related disciplines (or equivalent training as part of a PhD programme).
You must have a PhD (or be within one year of completion) in Economics or other quantitative social science or have evidence of original research work through independently written scientific papers approaching refereed journal quality. In addition, you should have advanced analytical skills in handling and quantitative analysis of large, complex datasets, and experience in using STATA or other econometrics/statistical software.
You must also have experience working with evaluation data, including econometric analysis and preparation of charts and graphs. You should have experience of communicating to policy audiences and the ability to synthesise and summarise research and draw out the relevant findings for a given audience. You must be capable of working independently as well as with internal and external stakeholders. Excellent written and verbal communication skills will be required. You must be able to write and present engaging content tailored for a range of audiences and to communicate technical material in non-technical terms for non-academic audiences.
