We invite applications for a Research Officer to work on LIFELONG - an exciting project on the effects of early life and education interventions on biological ageing. The project is led by Dr Emilie Courtin and funded by the European Research Council (UKRI Pioneer guarantee). The aim of the project is to understand whether social interventions and policies implemented early in the life course can alter the rate of biological ageing.

Who you are. You have a doctoral degree in a field similar to but not limited to quantitative social sciences, economics or (social) epidemiology and a strong interest in causal inference and open science. You are drawn to interdisciplinary research and want to develop new skills at the crossroads between social and biological sciences to answer policy-relevant research questions. You have experience using experimental and quasi-experimental research designs.

What you will do. The Research Officer will work independently under Dr Courtin. You will participate in the day-to-day research operations of the LIFELONG project with regard to: (1) the design, implementation and completion of research activities, including study conceptualization, primary and secondary data collection, analysis and reporting; (2) writing scholarly manuscripts and other materials to communicate research findings for scientific and non-scientific audiences; (3) disseminate research findings internally at LSE as well as at national and international conferences; (4) participate as relevant in grant writing, including identification of research grants/fellowship opportunities; (5) work closely with Dr Courtin to strategically plan scientific endeavours.

Why join us. You will join an exciting project, funded by a flagship grant programme devoted to pushing research boundaries. The project involves exciting collaborations with colleagues at the University of Oxford, Imperial College London and Columbia University, among others. Dr Courtin co-runs an interdisciplinary seminar on the social determinants of biological ageing and is a member of a number of interdisciplinary networks. We will provide abundant opportunities for networking and learning. Dr Courtin is also committed to mentoring and pay forward the advice she has received. We will support you in developing the next stages of your career, including grant and fellowship applications as relevant. We value a diversity of disciplines, backgrounds, thoughts and approaches. LSE offers an occupational pension scheme, generous annual leave, hybrid working, and excellent training and development opportunities.
